Fossil hunting at the target range … duck and dig! February 15, 2010 (46/365)

This pile of rocks used to be a thermal vent at the bottom of an ocean covering Colorado (and other states). Now it is prime hunting grounds for baculites and other fossils. Turns out it is also part of the range for the man with the long-range rifle who lives at the top of the mesa … call first before hunting!!

Today was “Experiments Day” in our house, Febraury 7, 2010 (38/365)

The Mentos-Coke experiments outside were a bust, but we made some nice lava lamps in the house. Our rule: The bigger the mess, the funner the experiments!

Fill beaker 3/4 full with vege oil, add enough vinegar to almost fill beaker, coat thick salt in baking soda, drop in, and have fun. Add food colors drops too!

I’m not mad … do I look mad? January 27, 2010 (27/365)

Several Long-billed Thrashers live in the cactus near my parents house. They were my second choice for this photo, but they stood still longer than the damn quail I was trying to shoot (with my camera!).

On the train to Chicago to see Santa!

This is a shot on the inbound route to Chicago. We took the Metra train this year to avoid the weather-related delays. As you can see, everyone was excited and full of energy!
